Tried a different route to work this afternoon and came across this house. It's no longer being used as a residence but for storage. The amount of hand labor that went into this thing is amazing. I'll add some of the detail shots later.....

Well.... This is Irving, TX. & we have been having a series of 2.8 -> 3.2 quakes lately..... Our hi-tech detectors (bobble head lucky chinese cats) have been wobbling like crazy! Kinda like the Wizard of Oz scene - 'pay no attention to the man behind the curtain' only for us it's 'it has nothing to do with the fracking operations up the road'....
The guy who built the house in the photos - & this is the only thing I can think of - must have done all his work without the aid of a level, a construction square or a plumb bob!!!! I seriously doubt if their is a 90 degree angle in the entire joint!

Yeah, it kinda looks like a DIY job gone horribly wrong. I'm surprised it could ever get a certificate of habitability.

You know it's bad when the neighbors are saying, "There going the neighborhood" while it's still being built. :)

Kind of looks like the builder used the more is MORE principle. The gate frames appear to be made out of 8"x8"x1/2" angle iron!! Woof!!!

It's a good thing that you can read between the words, AJ. Usually I can spell. :)

My dad taught high school english when Dallas instituted a percentage pass system in the late 60's... I used to help him when he was grading his term papers & I supervise diesel mechanics for the local transit agency and have to read their job notes.... I can translate virtually any known form of english!!! :-D

It's a disappearing skill set. On occasion I will amaze my kids with the not so amazing ability to read upside down and backwards. They've even seen me do this with hand-written cursive which you would think (from their perspective) to be bordering on mystical.

On the other hand, when I was young, I used to think my mother had magic powers until I realized that she was:

A) Mom
B) Had been around the block a few times with my much older sister
C) Smarter than I was.

These days I have a much better appreciation for her position. My wife and I had just turned 50 when we adopted a newborn. I have learned some subtle differences between intelligence and wisdom. :)
