Down Memory Lane + Continued Experiments with NIK software

I was browsing through old photos for something to experiment on and found some of my daughter with one of her kittens from Nov 2005.
My daughter was 11 and so was the kitten (weeks that is). The photos were taken with a Sigma SD10. Late afternoon light with very warm tones and a lot of contrast taken in the open air section of a "California" style street car at the museum. (Riku and his sister Kire were born to one of the museum cats in Oct and we got them in early Nov. Jasmine thought they would like to go visit their mother so we took them out to the museum.)
#1 as shot cropped and converted to JPEG
#2 run through Paint Shop Pro X7 for conversion to B&W with slight touch ups
#3 converted with NIK Silver Efex in PSE 13 just a touch of sepia added

How about a touch of color? Nice shot though.

Thanks here are two versions from LR 5.7 using sliders to desaturate and adjust contrast & tones.

They are beautiful shots Robert, but I have 6 cats and am partial to orange!! And your daughter is so beautiful with a peaches and cream complexion!! I still like the original!

We had five, now four, Riku was the only orange one. His sister is a mostly Black tortise shell, one silver tabby, one black and silver tabby and one dark gray tabby who at 13 looks solid gray in most light.

Your experimentation is paying off Jerry. That being said, the original photograph of the kitten and young girl is just downright precious. I don't see how you could go wrong.

Thanks Bob. I bought NIK, still debating about Topaz. I really prefer being able to use sliders instead of trying to remember about a million pre-sets.
