I could find no mythological reference for a creature with the head and wings of an Eagle and the body of a Serpent. Furthermore, I don't know from what plant this "dried flower" arrangement is made as it's not really a dried flower, but the remains of a row of plants planted behind a church. I suspect when it grows new flowers I may be able to identify the species.

But I do know it looked cool.

Bob it looks like an Okra. Are those seed pods? Was the plant tall?

It resembles a dried up iris.

I think you may be right Corolyn. The plant was about 5 feet tall, there were about 20 or 30 plants in 2 rows, and at the end of the stalk was something that looked very much like a pod.

Thanks Gregory. This one caught me completely by surprise. I was out looking for statuary and was driving out of the back church parking lot when I saw a row of plants almost silhouetted against the sky. This structure looked so fantastic I drove around the block to view it from the other side. I'm glad I did.

Thanks Randy. There is a bit of the grotesque about it. For some reason it reminds me somewhat of the "Night on Bald Mountain" from Disney's Fantasia.
