Which monopod would you recommend for Nikon 7100 & tamaron 150-600?
This will be mainly used for travel and I would like to be able to fold it & pack it in the suitcase. Thank you very much for your help. I have been following uglyhedgehog for quite a while, but am not confident enough to post my pictures!

I am always recommending the Manfro 685B for speed and ergonomics. It does not collapse very small though.

The Manfro 681b is a good choice. Not as solid as the 685b,but 1/2 pound lighter,$100 cheaper and folds 3" shorter.

Targus TG-MP6710. Sturdy. Sixty Seven and a half inches extended, twenty one and a half collapsed. About fifteen bucks at Wal-Mart.

Supports 22 pounds, folds to 15 inches and weighs less than a pound:

Supports 40 pounds, folds to 18 inches and weighs a pound:

Make sure you get a tilt head of some kind to connect the lens to - like the Manfro 234. I also recommend using a macro slide adjustment between the lens and the head for quick and easy balance control - also acts as a good carry handle !

Pleased with the 234,but might be pushing the weight capacity,so I try not to be too jerky in handling.

I'm using it with my 150-500 and no problems, just being cautious! Mine has seen little use,but I'm going to get going when some of the snow clears. Rumor has it that spring is on the way! You're probably packing twice the weight, so I should relax a little!

I use a Manfrotto 695 with a 234 swivel head fitted.
When collapsed it measures approx 22.5 inches including the head.

Manfrotto 681B with a Sirui L-10 tilt head. Head is good for 30 lbs and I use this with my 300 prime lens and a D3 attached. Great combo!

What he said! I heartily recommend this monopod. Attach a Bieke Ball Head (http://www.ebay.com/itm/BEIKE-BK-03-Camera-Tripod-Ball-Head-Ballhead-with-Quick-Release-Plate-1-4-Screw-/261466244292?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3ce09a44c4)and you've got one heck of a rig.... and for less than $50 all together. I know, without a doubt that there will be those who will poo-poo ANYTHING that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, thinking that if you throw enough money at something, eventually you'll get something worthy of your efforts. Trust me, this is one VERY NICE rig! The Beike head is top drawer and is every bit as good at the Manfroto, manfritter.... whatever.

There have been any number of decent monopods mentioned. I would consider the best, and most expensive, to be the one from Really Right Stuff. If this is over your budget, I would most certainly look at their monopod head. Again, expensive, but the best there is. I confess to not having a RRS monopod, as they didn't make one when I bought any of mine. I have older Bogens and an I forget Carbon Fiber one. I do have only RRS clamps and monopod heads and I absolutely love them.
