Wife wanted a new mattress. She wanted to check out the Tempurpedic I could have cared less. So we go of course she wasn't going to shut up till we did. Well the salesman goes into his rehearsed speech about all the sales points. But something caught my attention. He told us that this was the material that NASA use for the astronauts. At this point I had to speak up. There is no gravity in space why would you need a Tempurpedic mattress I think the most important part of sleep in space would be a belt to hold you to yor wall. Well the salesman and my wife must have been in the selling and buying mood. They just looked at me then went back to selling and buying. I would still like to know the answer. Well the last three nights have been like sleeping on a rock.

I thought the material was used for the seats, to help with liftoff.
This summer, you will burn up, sleeping on the Tempurpedic.
I had to get rid of mine, because of it.

We bought one circa 1990 and are still sleeping on it. Does not appear to be deteriorating. We even have the pillows. However, given that 99% of what we purchase today has been cheapened I would be surprised if the quality is still the same. Bed, Bath & Beyond sells their pillows, but reviews indicate they have an unpleasant odor. My guess is the products are no longer manufactured in Sweden.

You are correct on the original use. I am not a Tempurpedic fan because I don't particularly like the feel but they have addressed the body heat issues with new materials that help dissipate the heat. No guarantee but I think it is less a problem now.

We have the 200mm version and I find it very comfortable. I agree with the statements about it being warm but you have to have it on a slatted bed to give it a chance. They do soften up after a while. I'm guessing, dirty dave, that you might be finding out how knackered your old mattress was or worse, how knackered your back has become.

From Cambridge dictionaries online,
knackered adjective (BROKEN)› broken or too old to use: My bike's knackered.

I've always understood it to come from 'fit for the knackers yard' where horses went to become glue and stuff.

Being the cheap bas***d that I am, I bought the 2-inch memory foam mattress topper at Sam's Club for $99. Feels like a Tempurpedic at a fraction of the cost....

So did I. At the time I had it on an air mattress and never had a more comfy bed. I need to set it up again.

Over 4 yrs. I purchased 2 AERO bed mattresses. Each lasted 12 to 14 months....... lost air in 3 hrs. of sleep. No wild activities. First one cost $95 @ Bed/Bath. 2nd. one cost $45 at a Menards Hardware store. I was going to send the 2nd one back to Kansas, mfg. company to see if they would repair/replace. The company that creates the AERO also creates another version for camping outdoors. Wondering if anyone else had problems with AERO mattress?

I will only buy a mattress that can be turned and/or flipped regularly.

Yes, I had one of those a few years ago to use temporarily while waiting to move in a newly purchased home. It must have been made of Swiss cheese - had to use a repair kit several times. After we moved in, I took it to the landfill.
