Every Grizzly bear in Alaska does it. Observe This pic was taken at Brooks Falls, Alaska. Do you think the bear got the fish or did fishy dodge the Grizzly Bear Gauntlet and swim on to "Spawn? ( Spawn is the PC phrase for " to have sex" in salmon and bear speak)

Since you title this photo "escaping salmon" I'll guess he escaped. Nice shot! How close were you to this grizzly?

?The devil is in the details. Forgot to put in the "?" I was probably 50 yards or so but have a pretty good TF lens I was in a bear viewing stand. As long as we humans keep our distance, the bears allow us our freedom Thanks fo looking and commenting

Yup. It's their desire for sex that enables them to endure their long ( 1000 miles or more ) trip to bed and the high species mortality rate Thanks for looking and commenting.

great shot. it amazes me to see bears, so close to the edge of the falls, w/ the water rushing by them. the strength it must take to avoid being pushed over the edge, on top of that to catch a fish in its mouth. simply astounding to me. gary

Oh give me a break.....catching fish hardly qualifies for a "alpha predator status"!!!

It's just symbolic. If members of the Cat family didn't have water phobia they might get a chance to join in the banquet also. 8-)
