Challenge Monday, March 2 - Wednesday, March 4.. Teach Me To Capture Light

Loc: Colorful Colorado
I captured this photo with HDR.... I wanted to capture the gleeming water with the sunset..... I over exposed by 2 and underexposed by 2 along with the properly exposed and then put them together
Loved the image of these 2 women working together.... I was inside and the lighting was kind of scattered so I upped my ISO
i love lensflare..... As you can see, I got down low and shot towards the sun

And now, I will ask your help on what I could have done differently on this group photo...... Lots of shadows on faces and such... What would you have done??

Second guy from the right, I'd change those pants
Swing the gang around 90 degrees. facing the sun.

Jim the second guy just need to be in the back were the pants do not show.
It is very difficult when the light/sun is so low (shown by the shadows on the ground). You could turn them facing the sun, but you would have them squinting. Another option is to turn them so their backs are to the sun and then use a flash to open up the shadows. Any other thoughts?

Use fill flash as mentioned, or a reflector. Never face your subjects into the sun.

In low sun, when they are facing the sun, or nearly facing it, if it is hand held, squat down to eliminate your own shadow

Sher, I don't mind the side lighting, however by reversing the order of the people (shortest on the sunny side) the taller would not cast shadows on them. Some times it takes a little adjustment and moving the people around to get the lighting near even.
