I have several Tamron lenses and a Sigma super wide lens. I am happy with both brands. I would probably go with the Tamron. I have filters and an extender that works with my Tamron lenses.

By the same token, my extender is a 1.4x so it gets me over 400mm. If I wanted to a longer focal length and had to buy a lens I would probably go with the Canon solution.

I would see which was the same length as the legs on my coffee table so that when I come home blind stinking drunk and sit on it thinking its a sofa and break a leg I can prop it up so my dear wife does not notice in the morning.
There is much to be said for marital harmony and who gives a monkey's crap which one you buy or do not buy?
Here endeth the lesson for today

I had that choice to make myself. That's why my camera gear insurance list includes the 150-600mm Sigma Sport model. Fully weather sealed, Pro build quality, NO plastic parts, very sharp all the way to 600mm, and a really nice padded case is included for free.
Cons? Extra weight and extra price.

I chose the Sigma 150-600 sport because of the all metal construction, it's weather sealed and USB dock. I've only used it once since I received it 2 weeks ago and was very happy with the results. As Carter mentioned, image quality is very sharp when fully extended. The two shots included were shot at 600mm

I have the Tamron 150-600 and love it.

Two reasons. Price and weight. It's four pounds lighter
and I can shoot free handed. Four pounds more would
make that extremely hard to do.

You might want to check the weights before you make wild statements like that.

The Tamron is about 2 pounds lighter and $1K less expensive.

The Sigma has better image and build quality, and has a docking feature that allows customizing.

What is more important to you? If I were choosing it would be the Sigma.

I tried both out for a day. Both were equally sharp. At the end of the day I took better pictures with the Tamron as the weight was lighter. I have both Sigma and Tamron lenses and usually like the Sigma brand better. I used the lenses on a Nikon D7000 and Nikon D610. I thought the Bokeh looked better with the Tamron lens when used on the D7000 (crop sensor). Looked equal with both lenses on the D610. The Sigma is built solid without a doubt with good features. But I really benefited from the lighter weight for my style of shooting. Here is a link for some other comparisons: http://www.kruger-2-kalahari.com/tamron-vs-sigma-150-600.html
