I just received my March 2015 issue of OUTDOOR PHOTOGRAPHER. There is a 5 page spread of photographs made by legendary landscape photographer, David Muench.
I quote " Legendary landscape photographer David Muench traded a 4x5 for compact digital cameras for his most recent expeditions in Montana and his exploration of Big Sky Country".
He used both Canon Powershot SX50 HS and a Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ70.
Quite an endorsement I would say.
I am glad I made my purchase of the SX 50, tho recent health issues caused me to put my photography on hold.

How neat to hear that; hopefully my issue is in my mailbox!

Bridge cameras are such a treasure for those on limited budgets or with health restrictions.

I have an older DSLR, but doubt I will do much with it now that I have the SX50 and also a smaller pocketable Canon. I know you are highly complimentary of the SX50.

I have the SX50 and i really love it. I'm still hanging on to my T3i though for the sharper long focal length shots of Birds. The SX50 is an amazing camera, has so many functions, so easy to use and take with you everywhere you go.

I don't photograph birds, at least only occasionally, and as of now, I am pleased with the SX50. Thanks for your comment.

I just like this bridge camera because I have no fear taking it to NYC. I just don't feel comfortable dragging a 5D3 with a 24-70 lens.

Just have to be careful pushing the exposure in PP. It falls apart quickly even in RAW I suspect because of the small sensor. It is rather amazing considering it's slightly above a 50 1.8 in price if you buy it refurbished

Good to hear! Because of health issues I can no longer hold my DSLR. (Shoot, some days can't hold the sx50 either). But without my sx50 I would have had to give up my photography hobby. I love that camera. It is fun to use and fairly easy as well .... Well eventually, it is. ;-)

I just read that article. It's amazing the quality of the images you can get from a bridge camera's small sensor as long as you use it within its limits.

That's what it's all about. If it were 10-year old Billy from next door, the pictures would not have looked so good.

My copy of OP hasn't arrived yet, but I'll be sure to find the article.

I think it tends to only prove what many of us already know, not so much the equipment, more thee expertise of the "shooter".

BTW: my Mothers maiden name was Muench, but I am doubtful I am related to David. Muench of German origin. I am not into genealogy so not interested in pursuing it.
