Looks like a year has come and gone. Adobe sent me a notice my CC subscription was coming to an end next month and would automatically renew, at the CURRENT 9.99 price for another year....

Can't complain at all.... no price increase. :)

Can't beat it with a stick. :)

With Lightroom 6 coming in a few days I'm going to have to make a decision.

I think the CC plan for photographers is one of the best deals around

You are right. But I'm not yet sure I want to climb the PS CC learning slope. I've got Elements with Lightroom and a few plugins. I like the combination. So, it may come down to picking between a $70 upgrade that will last about 18 months or $120 a year for the CC.

If you are already using Elements, there may not that much of a learning curve to move to Photoshop for you.

I started with PSE myself and always thought Photoshop too difficult, but it actually became easy after using Elements.

Photoshop will move you to a 16 bit editor instead of 8 bit. Your plugins may work fine in Photoshop.

I've not been able to identify a need for 16 bits for what I do. I'm probably missing something. The only justfication I can come up with for me is to be able to say I am using the "real thing". A course or two at Linda.com would get me over any learning hump.

Recently, Scott Kelby has had an epiphany regarding LR. He cannot say enough about how great he thinks it is. Except for composites and layering, Photoshop is playing second to LR in photography post processing.

I've come to the same conclusion. 80%-90% of necessary editing can be done in LR. If you need to manage different components of an image, you need PS and I have come to understand I need that extra component. So, I'm on a steep learning curve to take my photos to the next level.

I would agree 100% with those figures, EXCEPT, as I have gotten more comfortable with Photoshop I find that I tend to send files from Lightroom to complete the editing in Photoshop. So my finished in Lightroom percentage is less then it was previously ;)

The question is, what kind of editing can't you do in LR than you can ONLY do in PS?

Layers for one....masking and replacing backgrounds.

And remember, Photoshop is a PIXEL editor.

Agree so why do you indicate you're sending photos more often to PS for editing? LR is so much simpler to correct 'non-destructively' than PS EXCEPT for the Layering/Masking issue....

I think maybe we're on the same page here, eh? Layering/masking can be a critical finish to an otherwise finished photo in LR.... 8-)

I think it is that now that I am more used to Photoshop it is easier to use it's toolset to finish photographs. Sometimes a touch that could not be done in Lightroom easily, but is a snap in Photoshop.

I am not belittling Lightroom as I use it for image management and most of my editing, but to get that last bit out of an image it might take a round trip to Photoshop.

Lightroom is still used as my primary editor, but I have found as I have learned more of the Photoshop toolset that I am not finished with a photo only by editing in Lightroom as much as I once was.

Except for the layering/masking issue (photographically speaking), everything else in PS must be done in Camera Raw, (or through the laborious layering process in PS) which is the same engine as LR only with 'less' capability. So, not sure what you mean by the 'last bit' statement.
