Nikon D750 with Nikkor 105G lens & Opteka 36mm extension tube, Nikon SB-800 speedlight @ 1/16 power on hot shoe with softbox.
24 frame stack via Control my Nikon and Zerene software. I've also been trying Helicon remote and Helicon Focus.
Much to learn. Too many choices & all have different features I like.
Fossil found near Portland, OR.

Yes, it's agatized. That's part of an echinoid spine showing in the upper right corner. Also agatized.

This is an excellent photo showing both photographic and post processing skills .... er..aaa.. as well as scientific knowledge.

I did a download and upped the orange and green saturation a bit and the subject came out of the page and started crawling again!! Upping the color really put some life into it!!

Some may say, yaa, but that is not the way it was... well, the way it was depends greatly on the frequency mix of the illumination and the sensitivity character of the receptor. In science we do that sort of manipulation to see the unseen.

Nice sharp stack there MuddyValley. Although I've owned the software for quite some time now, I've not tried Helicon Focus tethered to my laptop yet ..... you've inspired me to give it whirl.

That was pretty true to the original's colors. I am pretty new at post processing and don't know how to do individual color channels in Elements 11, which is what I used. I bumped the saturation & some midtones for this one. Feel free to post your rendition!

Thanks Bob. I'm still using the one month trial versions. I am realizing that the stacking process is so time consuming (especially in replacing OOF areas in the stack) that I want to make sure I buy the most user friendly program. Both for tethering & for stacking.

Nice. I wouldn't change the color, but you might try boosting the contrast. JMHO. Allen

Glad to see you giving Helicon Remote a whirl.

Muddyvalley, your more saturated rendition is beautiful... those more saturated colors bring the ancient back to life. I could do no better.

There are times when, be it saturation and/or contrast, mod of what the available light and camera sensors see is not all the information. We use color correction all the time, believe we call it white balance... for an object like this, the light is reflected from sand and rocks which indeed shift it. The reflectivity of the samples tend to be muted because the surface is not smooth. So... if we can kick some life into the image, why not. People too often in UHH error on the "nice side" rather than being helpful by suggesting alternate realities.

In the camera club where I am a member, I one says "I like that." One of the Judges would say... "OK, Why do you like it, how would you change it." Last friday there were about 40 submissions... most were critiqued and on screen quick modifications made. I always learn, I always over look something on my own that I would have caught on someone else's!!
