Hi Guys, can you answer this one please?
I use my Nikon D610 all the time using the back focus button.
So, how can I use the AE button for what it was intended at the same time? Or, am I in effect already using it as such?
Thanks.
Jimbo
You can assign other functions to that button, but I think it is best used for bb focusing.

You would need to switch over to manual mode. That gives you control over exposure.

On my camera when that button is set to BBF, the AE-L still exists at the shutter half-push position. (Which it does anyway at half-push. Default settings has AF-L and AE-L at the shutter button.)
The AE-L/AF-L (in default) allows you to lock the automatic settings, then recompose your shot, then shoot it.
So even when using your AE-L/AF-L as a BBF, you still have AE-L at the shutter button.
Thank you all, guys.
Sonny, you explained it best! Thank you! :)

Cheers, Jim!
Glad I could help. :-D
(I just wish my dumb thumb could remember to use the button for BBF)
