When I try to open a photo with Paintshop X6 I get a message that the program "... has stopped working ..." and all I can do is close the program.

However, if I open the program and move a photo into it I have no problems.

I have researched all I could in this site and elsewhere ... !

It could be a memory problem Bob.
If your computer is trying to start up the program at the same time its trying to open a large photo file, that will be using a lot of memory.
Try opening a very small jpg file with Paintshop as an experiment.
If that works maybe you need more RAM.
Cheers

As already mentioned, try re-installing the program and or try opening small files with it and see if that makes a difference. To help up help you better it'd be good to know if you have been using this program for a while and this problem just started and or if there have been any hardware changes to your computer or any new programs added recently just before this problem started.

Happens to me most of the time. Started soon after the first installation. I have plenty of memory and cpu when it works properly. It does not seem to impact my work once I am in the program.

Hmmm I jumped from X3 to X7 and never had a problem with either one. My PC is old running Windows 7, 2.8GHz AMD Processor and 3GB RAM with 64 bit install. I never ran X6 but it doesn't seem like it would be that much different.

I have that, too. What I found is that I can open Task Manager (ctrl-alt-del) and then close any PaintShop Pro process(es) that are running, and then all works well again. Good luck.

Happened with X6 all the time. Upgraded to X7 and it has not happened. Go figure.

We all keep (except) our camera equipment up-to-date... but neglect the computer. They fill with dust, over heat, they are 5 years old and slow with 4 gig limited MOBO XP design, etc. That "Program Failed" may be really Processing failed.

May be time to upgrade the computer... no not a lap top... I just spent about $650 for parts now have 8 core and 16 gig of memory and 3 gig of video card (DDR5 memory). Build your own is easy.

Yes, reloading may help... but I bet most are using clunky old computers to work the heavy loads of 64 bit software on machines designed for 32 bit, cameras not 3 mpix but now 20mpix or more... Time to reboot the old machine out the door.

Pleasure to watch that % bar zoom across the bottom of the screen!!

Is your CPU 64 bit also? If you have 32 bit processor, that could be the problem.

Maybe. But even did it on my brand new Win 7 machine with gobs of memory. Stopped doing it when upgraded to X7.

I have X6, never had that kind of problem or any other problems where it just shut down. Installed on a W7 i3 with 8g ram. Both 64 bit and 32 bit installed. Also had X5 with no problems.

Reloaded last night ... seems to be doing fine ... will still upgrade to X7 ...

As an aside - as mentioned on this site - "Beginners Workshop" seems to offer some pretty good training on Paintshop ... I registered and am waiting for a mentor ...
