last week I took some wedding photos for a friend of mines..the wedding took place in a poorly light small livingroom..2 daylight fluorescent lamps on one side of the room and 2 incandescent lamps on the other side..there was a white ceiling so i tried to override the ambient lighting with flash trying not to blow things out..here is a couple of examples...and im just a beginner so be easy on the critiquing. hope the pictures loaded ok. the first photo I used 2 sb600 flashes 45 degrees left and right of subjects...in the second photo I bounced the flash off the ceiling..

You did very well mcraven. I like the lighting very much. the shadowing gives it a three dimensional effect.

Weddings can be, well, really awful. But some are also really worth doing! And this looks like one of those. What a pleasant looking couple.
You didn't do bad. The BW image on the top, and to some degree the same is true of the color image, could use a little contrast adjustment to give it some "pop". Use a curves tool, and manipulate it with two points. One point about 1/3 of the way from the black side to the middle, and the other one just above the middle of the curve. Raise the top point and very slightly lower the bottom one. Move them up and down, and move them along the original 45 degree axis to get what you like. You can look at a luminance histogram to get an idea of what is happening. As it is most of the graph is below middle grey, which makes it all look drab. If you get it about right the graph will be highest some place really close the the middle of the horizontal axis, or middle grey.
thank photo friends... I used a d7000 with a sigma 17-70 lens attached..
