Hi all,

I have a D5100 and a set of two Novatron lights with transformer that I'm trying to set off with a Nikon AS-15 that goes where my aux flash would normally go. It came with the Novatrons (that were given to me as payment for being 2nd shooter at a wedding a while back). I know I used them successfully in the past but right now I'm about to rip my hair out! Anyone know what settings I should be using on my D5100 to get these to work?

Thanks!
Donna

I mean yes, my camera is set on TTL and that's how I normally use it with my SB-910 but I don't know if the Novatrons are TTL. Thanks for responding.

What model is it? Try google novatron and see what you can find. It worked before...so I'm thinking its a setting...camera...trigger....power switch...or a cable maybe.

Try it with manual flash mode...see if that works.

Oh, manual FLASH mode.....hmmmmm. I'll check on that rather than TTL. Thanks.

Novatrons are strictly manual. No TTL.
Shutter no faster than 1/250th sec and adjust your aperture and flash power to get the right exposure.
Lets hope the flash trigger voltage does not fry your camera.
I'm gonna guess the "D" is for digital and you'll be ok, but...
Get a radio trigger- no cord to get in the way and there are a lot of inexpensive ones out there.

Looks like a nice unit.

Ok, tried it with Nikon AS-15 (which is wireless, GoofieNewfie) AND with the SB-910 with all the suggestions you guys made. No luck! Dang it!! I KNOW it worked before. Guess I could just use them as modeling lights. Those work. Thanks all. I'll keep a watch if anyone has any other ideas.

The AS-15 is a PC to hot shoe adapter.
Lets you hook up a PC CORD to your camera.

That's exactly what I have, Goofy. The other Nikon user I got the Novatrons from included it and it DID work when I got the set. I just haven't used it in a year or two now and I can't figure out how I did it. He probably doesn't remember now because he's using all Olympus and Canon equipment now. I've never hooked up a PC cord to my camera.

It's not a wireless device.
You need a PC cord or a cheap radio transmitter/receiver set to trigger your flash.
Getting ready to go on a trip or I could recommend something specific.
Cheers!

I beg to differ. It IS wireless. The ONLY thing I can do with it is to attach it to the flash connection of my camera. There's no other way to connect it. There's an "eye" on it, no other connection. Have a good trip.
