The Monarch caterpillars have invaded again and I now have 5 known chrysalis' around the yard I am watching. I am sure there are more to come when I locate them. These are 3 photos of numerous caterpillars on one of my milkweed plants, a hanging caterpillar about to form a chrysalis and a chrysalis. No Monarchs yet but I am hoping to see one develop and get some photos.
Wow Dennis, they have moved back in with full force. I take it your plants survived the winter or you have replenished them. Nice photos of course and nice sequence. I await more news.

Thanks, Brenda. Every single leaf of the plant is totally gone now. The plants survived well from last year when they were demolished just as bad. They grew more leaves for this year. I just bought two more plants and will get them planted today.
Thanks for looking at the photos. I have more and just need to get them posted.
That chrysalis is begging for a time-lapse sequence. ;)
You are probably correct. But right now I have 5 chrysalis but no time lapse equipment.
One of the J hanging caterpillars was due to change into a chrysalis but I had to run into town for a couple of hours. When I came back he had already done his thing. You might think that after all the time I spend raising these things they would show a little consideration and be cooperative to my time schedule but Nooooooo. They don't care a whit about my needs. It is all about them.

Dennis, You have a D800 and a tripod, you have the equipment to do time lapse  It will also put the video together in camera so you don't even need to be concerned about that aspect. Just do it! :D
Great set of pictures. Like #1 the best. Subject it sharp and the back ground has just enough focus to show the other caterpillars w/o taking away from the main subject.
