I'm starting to get a better feel for what I'm trying to do with this. The particular tree I used for this had to be well over a hundred. There are graves in this cemetery that date back to the early 1820's......

Looks like an ink blot test card. Tell me what you see in it?

Thanks kindly.... this sort of thing is easy to over do. The trick is finding the right subject material. The great-grandaddy Post Oak I used for this composite seemed to work well.

I love questions like this! As Larry mentioned this is a use of mirroring. The original photo was of a branch on a 100+ year old Post Oak. This is actually a double mirroring effect. I took the original photo, flipped it horizontally, merged the two images and then flipped the combined image vertically and merged the two again. I de-saturated it slightly, jacked up the contrast a bit and finally used a low level adaptive un-sharpening tool on it..... I tried some other stuff that was a little more far out but liked this the best. Sometimes less is more. BTW, I use GIMP 2.8.......

Can mirroring be done in PSE? I have never done it, so would appreciate the guidance.

Very nice. It looks like a study in fractals.

I'm sure PSE would work. I know there are lots of folks here that are really good with Photoshop (Perhaps one of them could help?) but I'm a GIMP 2.8 guy. The process is the same in any photo editing software that allows flipping, merging, the use of layers and the creation of a new file. If it would help I'd be more than happy to walk you through the process based on my familiarity with GIMP. Just send me a PM. BTW, I entered 'Mirroring with Photoshop' on YouTube and got tons of tutorials.

Thanks.... I love the colors and patterns on fractals. I ran my 1st fractal generator on a home made 286 w/256k of ram and a 20meg. hard drive. (state of the art!) If I recall correctly it took the better part of an hour to do one!!
