The advantage of using a Circular Polarizing lens / filter on a lens is well known. How does one use such a filter on the Tamron 150-600mm or Sigma 150-600mm lens....to use such a filter would require the lens hood to be removed and this would cause lens flare in the image ?

Suggestions and comments appreciated.

To install the filter, the lens hood may have to be removed, but, to my knowledge, there is no reason that the lens hood could not be put back on after the filter is installed.

The CP screws onto the inside of the lens not the out side like the hood.
Take the hood off and simply attach the CP, reattach the lens hood.
Easy, peasy.

You shouldn't get lens flare unless the light source (sun?) is shining in and then you should be able to use a hat or piece of cardboard or your hand even to shade the lens while adjusting your polarizer for each shot since angle of polarization changes depending on angle to light source.

This is a problem that I have on my 70-300 Nikor lens. Attaching the filter and the hood together is easy, just put the filter on first.

The difficulty is getting access to the filter to rotate it once the hood is on. That takes extremely long, skinny fingers.

You maybe able to find an inexpensive rubber hood that will attach to the filter rather than the lens. Now you can rotate the hood to adjust the filter.

Thank you for replying. I would like to rephrase my question: How does one operate the Circular polarizing filter with the lens hood attached...the lens hood on the Tamron and or Sigma 150-600mm lens is long, the Circular polarizing filter needs to be rotated to get the desired effect and the lens hood obstructs ones' ability to rotate the filter ?

I addressed that issue in my previous reply. Use a rubber lens hood that screws onto the filter and by turning the hood, you turn the filter. Cheap and effective.

For best results you should be shooting at right angles to the sun therefor little chance of lens flare.

simply carry a hat and leave the hood off

Have fun

I had seen a lens hood somewhere, that had a slot near the back if it and you would use one finger to rotate the polarizer . Not sure where but it was for a long lens.
