a friend of mine want me to take a few wedding photos for him. he wants some full body shots of him and his wife when they are married. Im using a d7000 with a sigma 17-70 lense. thinking about renting the Nikon 24-70 for the same purpose...full body shots... will the nikor 24-70 be any wider on the d7000 than the sigma 17-70? or what other lense would be perfect for the situation? thanks for any input photo friends.

I use the Sigma 17-70 lens all the time.
It's a great event lens and I'm planning on using
it for a wedding I'm doing next month.
Hope you post some of your photos.
If you are going to rent a lens, try the 70-200 f/2.8. This is a great lens for portraits when you shoot from 15' to 9'. You can get full body shots. The 24-70 f/2.8 is a great lens for other things.
The 17-70 has more width available than the 24-70. from 17-24 is all wider. Which Sigma 17-70 do you have. I have the older version and have used it for a lot of outdoor events. I mostly use the Sigma 18-35 1.8 for indoor depending on the venue.
I have the sigma 17-70 contemporary...the newer lense.
I will be inside in a livingroom with not to much light. thought about the 70-200 but don't think I have the room for it..

You are right, you won't have a lot of room. On your camera, indoors in a livingroom you are very unlikely to get close to 70mm very often. The 17-70 seems your best bet. It is effectively a 25-105mm.
Are you using a flash? If so, do you know the color of the walls and ceiling? They are probably a light color, so you should be able to bounce your flash pretty well.
I will be using flash....good thing is the room have a white ceiling. I guess the 17-70 and my nifty fifty will have to do this time. thanks peeps.

Good luck to you.
Be sure to let us know how it went.
I have had the 35mm and the 50mm for 6 months.
I've never used the 50 yet.
You may want to try a 12mm fish eye for some
specialty shots since its a small area. Sometimes
they look kind of cool. Just a thought.

Though at its widest (at 17mm) the Sigma is known to be a little soft so 17.5 or 18 might be better.

I have the older version and love it. I read the reviews of the new one and that was one of the few criticisms. But that is true to some extent of most zoom lenses at the extremes.

Yes, and it makes sense.
I have the newer one.
Very fast focusing and works well in low light.
I just finished doing a 50th wedding anniversary function where all the guests were asked to have their pictures taken as individuals or couples. I took a 10-22 and a 24-70 lens. They were mounted on two different camera. Most of the shots were with the canon 24-70. The canon 10-22 was used for group shots as the size in some rooms were restrictive to lens such as 70-200. Pictures were sent to a publisher and will be put into a book of "Memories" to look at on their 60th.

The 24-70mm on your D7000 DX 1.5x crop body will becomes 36-105mm Full frame equivalent, and the 17-70mm will be 25.5-105mm.
