ok,let's see if I can describe my problem.I have a Nikon 7100 with a Nikon ED 300 mm lens plus a Kenko 1.4 tele-converter.I have been using this combination for about three months with no problems at all.Yesterday I removed the tele-converter so I could take some photos of my grandson's hockey game using just the 300mm lens,no problems.Today I reapplied the tele-converter & the aperture ring wouldn't lock so I wasn't able to take any photos. If I remove the tele-converter the aperture ring locks. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. If I apply a little piece of tape over the aperture ring it stays locked & I then can take photos. If any of you out there can help,me with this I would really appreciate it.I don't know why I should have to apply tape to the ring!😫
I think there might be a shiny button which locks into the lens when placed properly. See if that button is fully coming out into the lock position.

If you are talking about the little black button with a white dot on it,yes it is out.
May I suggest to mount the TC to camera first, then mount lens to TC.

Put back the converter to the lens as you normally did but don't put on to the camera yet, try to turn the aperture ring on the lens all the way to f32 and lock it with the red dot switch along the ring. Now look through the lens and the same time use your finger to move the aperture linkage on the bottom of converter and see if the lens iris opens and closes accordingly freely. If not it may be some problem between the connection of the lens and the CT. Good Luck!

Great! Happy shooting!
Thanks again for your help!😃
Sometimes the mechanical linkage on the converter "fights back" and you just have to work with it a bit to get it to play nice.
