The HBs have been around all winter, but I haven't been out where I could get shots. This afternoon I sat on the deck practicing on sparrows and got a mix of both. I know I should have used a lower f stop on the HBs and will give it another try later.

Good shots Vicki but I have a question. Why would you use a shutter speed of 1/500" on a flying bird and 1/2000" and another of 1/2500" on static birds? I would suggest it be the other way around.

Just wondered if you use auto or manual focus to get those good sharp pictures.

Very appealing series!

When you say you should have used "lower f/stop," did you mean smaller aperture for more depth of field? I think of "lower" as smaller number, which means less dof.

You grabbed my attention at #1,Vicki! I think your shutter speed and DOF is about right. Those wings are going to be moving fast so a bit of blur would be acceptable. Focus is on the eye and that is remarkable at the rate they're moving. Wonderful series.

It's not that important what you used if the results are there, & they sure are. Great set, Vicki. :-)

Beautiful pictures Vickie; I agree with the comment from Joe on shutter speed, but beautiful captures none the less.
