Welcome to Day 62 :) Today we are going to take a look at Defining the Focal Point. Next time you take your camera out and line it up for a shot pause before you press the shutter button and ask yourself:
What is the Focal Point in this Picture? What will draw the eye of the viewers, What is the central point of interest? One of the reasons that a focal point is important is that when you look at an image
your eye will generally need a *resting place* or something of interest to hold your gaze. Without it you will find that people will simply glance at your photos and then move on to the next one.
Once you’ve identified a point of interest or focal point you then should ask yourself how you can enhance it. A focal point can be anything ranging from a person, to a building, to a mountain, to a flower, etc.
Obviously the more interesting the focal point the better.. but there are other things you can do to enhance it's power including:
Position...The rule of thirds works great here.
Focus...Shallow depth of field to blur out other aspects in front or behind your focal point.
Size...Making your focal point large is a good way to make it prominent.
Color...Contrasting colors help to make your focal point stand out.
We don't want to just photograph events ... We want to photograph moments. We want our images to convey a sense of warmth and intimacy that touches people deep down, so that they will find it difficult to look away.
We want to capture moments that will last forever.
Here are a few examples to get us started.

Focal point: In this photo the headlights of the truck entering the covered bridge captures your attention quickly. The covered bridge in itself is an attraction but the truck headlights create the draw to the center of the picture.

Focal point : This photo is one of my old favourites. This black and white cat was difficult to pick out among the rocks of this breakwater, however a bit of cropping brought it to the center forefront. The change in texture and shape immediately draw you to the soft rounded fur of the cat, declaring it to be the focal point.

Fred Ann..for me,if I was taking this picture,my focal point would be the front of the bridge with the height and weight signs in focus and wondering if that truck going through was going to make it...lol Just my view...Nice picture!
