Do you think that any digital camera will go down as a classic? Most folks have heard of Leica's M series 35mm cameras, the Rolleiflex TLR, the various types of press cameras,Crown Graphic etc. Is there any digital camera that will make the cut as a classic the way those film cameras did. They were around for years so name recognition even by the non photography public was not unusual. I ask because it seems to me that in the digital world things change so fast nothing will achieve the fame of the film cameras.
Sort of like the cars of today. They will never be considered classic or "cool" like the cars of the 30's through the 70's.

They won't last that long with today obsolesce culture.
Lenses, yes. Camera bodies, no.
The computer chip in a body gets technologically obsolete too quickly, and low-light sensitivity and resolution keeps improving.
But good glass lasts nearly forever.

I wouldn't be surprised if, 50 years down, the Canon 5D and its early variants is recognized as a trendsetting device, if not a 'classic'. 85% of the top landscape & wildlife photogs in the world shot/shoot with one, and a vast number are still in use. Hell, pick up any recent Arizona Highways mag, and there are as many shots with a 5D/II as there are with all other cameras combined.
My digital cameras are not classic, but the photographer could be considered "classic". Age: 77 and still clicking.

Any Car over 25 years is elligible for "classic" auto insurance at a signifigent discount. Theerefore my 40+year old Canon F-1 is a classic. It is film however not digital. Is any digital camera 25 years old or more?

The only one I can even think of with a chance might be the Nikon Df.
Kodak DCS-100 a DSLR made from a Nikon F3 was introduced in 1991. Close to 25 years now.
There are already classic digital cameras.

Please provide an example or two. I would be interested to know what they might be. I am far from an expert on what has been or is out there. Something to compare to the Leica M series 35mm cameras for instance and as well known.

Well, whenever this subject comes up the Ricoh GR is mentioned. The OLY OM-D is talked about.
And of course the Leica M and the M9 both.
My personal opinion is that one of the flavors of the Fuji X100 Family will be classic.
