Can anyone explain this?

Was checking into a Nikon 7100 and discovered this: New from Amazon with a 18-140 Zoom lens is priced at $1296.95. I jumped over to Nikon's website to check prices on a refurb 7100 and with the same lens it was priced at $1799.95. One of the problems I have always found with camera equipment has always been the wide and varible price range. Can't help but feel sympathy for someone buying their first camera. Let the Buyer Beware is so true with everything.

Amazon's price is most likely for a greymarket lens.

The lower price is likely from a reseller of grey market and will come with no battery, no strap, no anything other than exactly what it states then the vender will call and try to up sell you on all those "extras" at a whopping price. Stay away from those low ball prices.

Ships from and sold by Amazon with USA Warranty. I would not think Amazon would deal in the gray market?

If that's the case, I can't explain it.

It should be the real thing if sold my Amazon itself. The guys are right that some 3rd party sellers might advertise on Amazon and sell grey market stuff.

There is no indication that this is being sold by a third party. I believe when it says "shipped and sold by Amazon" that it is the real deal but could always be wrong?

One of the largest retailers in the world (Amazon) should be reputable.

Just had an issue with Amazon, purchased something as advertised, no caveat something else would replace it if out of stock, third party seller pulled a fast one and put something similar in box! Had to deal with third party seller!!!! Buyer beware. What's the saying, 'if it looks too good to
be true...?!"

i don't see any reason why Amazon would not sell and ship greymarket gear. There is nothing illegal or underhanded about greymarket gear or selling greymarket gear. Greymarket means it was intended for a market other than the US and doesn't have a USA warranty.

Maybe they would. My experience is that Amazon operates with the same degree of integrity as B&H and Adorama. They sell grey-market too, but they tell you.

I think you have to always be careful with the 3rd party resellers. That is why you will usually get asked to furnish a review - that is how Amazon weeds out the undesireables. I have a son who sells merchandise through Amazon and I know they are very strict. If you are late with 3 shipments they will boot you out.

I think someone at Nikon screwed up the price.
D7100 with 18-140 bundle, refurb = $1799
D7100 refurb body only = $899
18-140mm lens refurb = $300.

That beats the Amazon price.

Makes sense but I believe that Amazon price is new and not refurb.
