I think the marble might be a close up but when I delve into the marble or the beach glass are they macro photos. The beach glass is about 1 inch by maybe 1.5 inches. The marble is just a regular marble.
Thank you for any information.

It doesn't look like the exif is there. It's not coming up for me anyway.:|

Your Pentax K-3 camera has an APS-C sensor size of 23.5 x 15.6mm (http://www.us.ricoh-imaging.com/dslr/K-3#!product-specs ). At Minimum Focusing Distance, your Pentax DA 35mm f/2.8 Macro Limited Lens (http://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/SMC-Pentax-DA-35mm-F2.8-Limited-Macro-Lens.html ) will capture true macro. Only you know if your lens was set to MFD. What is the diameter of your marble? I speculate that image #3 is a macro, but image #2 is a close-up photograph.

I just measured a standard marble at 15mm diameter, so image #3 appears to easily be 1:1+. I'm not certain about the beach glass since we have nothing to reference but, I suspect it's 1:1.

You beat me to shooting marbles. I just acquired a few to do just very thing.
I really like your images:thumbup:

Thank you, I am having a great deal of fun with these marbles. I had some acrylic ice cubes to sit the marbles on that reflects the light through and up into the marble.

Thank you, I will try some close up filters later today to see if I can get more of the inside to be sharper.

I suspect your "close up" filters may loose resolution depending on which ones you have,
Never the less, I would love to see the results

That's what I want to check out, as it is I am right up on the glass so I don't know if they are of any use at all.

according to slrgear.com:
"the 35mm Macro is a true macro lens with a full 1:1 magnification ratio and a minimum focus distance of 5.47 in. (13.9cm)."
what do you mean when you say you are right up on the glass?

Minimum FOCUSING Distance is measured from sensor to subject; Minimum WORKING Distance is measured from lens front element to subject. A 35-mm macro lens has a MWD of 2-inches.

so with a full 2" of working distance the OP could probably slip a short extension tube in there, still have room left over, and not have to degrade with a lens.

Illuminating a subject with only 2-inches MWD is already difficult, and much more difficult when shortened with extension tubes or an add-on diopter lens.
