Good morning!

I'm running into a problem that I can't figure out.

I've edited headshots in LR5 and then processed them in the Portrait part of OnOne. Then I moved them to PS Elements to remove the background to a transparent canvas.

Files started as raw in LR and exported as PSD's. The ONLY move to jpegs was at the very end where they ended up as 560 KB files!!!! At no point did I ever reduce these files. Can anyone surmise what the problem is?

Thanks for any solutions you can come up with. Hopefully I explained well enough.

Donna

In the Export window, do you have a specific number and a check mark where it asks: "Limit file size to: XXXX?"
If so, uncheck the box.

When you take them from LR to OnOne, are you exporting or using the Edit in?

Then how are you getting them from OnOne to PSE ?

The workflow should be LR > Edit in > OnOne > Save (return to LR) > Edit in > PSE > Save (return to LR) > Export as jpeg to folder.

I am assuming OnOne can be set up as an external editor to LR.

If you are following the above procedure, then check the Export to jpeg dialogue in Lightroom to ensure jpgs are full size and maximum quality.

I used the "Edit in" going from LR to OnOne. Then I exported them from LR as PSDs. Then I opened PSE, created a transparent canvas and "placed" the PSD's onto the canvas from the file I'd exported them to. There is no way to specify maximum quality when exporting as PSDs from LR. I did choose maximum quality when exporting as JPEGS from PSE. Thanks for your input, Searcher. I'm still as puzzled as ever.

Just before the final export to jpg, open the file in LR Develop, make a note of the image size (you may have to press "i" on your keyboard a couple of times). Post that figure here (e.g. 2000 x 3000).

I just did a test export from LR AFTER the OnOne edits and they came out at about 6mb so the issue must be in PSE. I'll check that out again. Does the background being transparent reduce the size of the images?

Yes it probably does, but not by 5+MB

I took one of my head shots, enlarged the image size to 3264 x 4925 pixels and saved it as a psd file. File size became 80.3MB

Sent the image to PS and made the background transparent.
Save to LR, and Save as a psd file.

psd became 163 MB (and that was one layer only)

Export from LR as a jpg, full size and 100% quality
jpg = 4.02 MB

I am puzzled, will think and play some more.
