This WWII B-17 flew into Carson City's airport and for a fee, one could take a ride. Unfortunately, I was unable to ride along due to work time constraints. If I ever have the opportunity to do it again I'll jump at the chance.

Here's a link to the history of this aircraft. It rolled of the assembly line too late for the European theatre but went to the Pacific.

Thanks for the link Bob, that was quite a restoration project. It's a beautiful plane, they sure did an outstanding job.

Those are not 'Kills' those are bombing missions. My count on them is 55 bombing sorties.

Don't know that bombers ever posted their gunner's kills. The gunners were too busy playing CYA, and trying to get home alive; to count the number of fighters that they had to shoot down.

Just checked. She was assigned to Pacific Theater (5th Air Force) and Clark Field in the P.I. Here is a link to more info on her if you care to read and look. http://www.azcaf.org/pages/aircraft_bios/B-17G_FlyFort.html

Thanks for sharing photos of a great aircraft.

Love that aircraft. I've seen it a few times on the West coast Air Show circuit. The season is about to start and there will be a smaller show at the Minden-Tahoe Airport at the end of June called the Aviation Roundup you might want to watch for. Nice pic's

An old friend of mine also a belly gunner on a 17. He went down on two of them over France. The resistance hid them for weeks before they could get back across the line. He passed away a few years ago in the veteran hosp. He lost one leg.
