Delete Button Stuck On Nikon D5200

Doesn't seem to be any dirt or anything to keep it from poping back out. I lost 200 images when it got stuck. I had to use the camera yesterday and everything works fine otherwise. But the depressed button would seem to be a time bomb. I'm thinking it's probably stuck somewhere between all in or all out. Wondering if some compressed air might help. Anyone ever have this issue? Or have some good advice?

Why not call Nikon they should be able to answer your question?

I would not use compressed air but I may stick a vacuum cleaner hose over it.

The D5200 does not have weather sealing so compressed air is always a bad idea.
Because of no weather sealing it is easily possible for dirt or debris to get lodged inside the mechanism and cause the button to bind. Often this can be removed simply by turning the camera so that the questionable button is pointing straight down and repeadtedly pressing that button. The problem causing invader will often fall right out after a few tries, and you may be amazed at how small a particle is necessary to cause this problem.

I tried that, and it did seem to come back out "some". But not all the way. It does have room to go in, so I'm not as worried about the button being a time bomb so much anymore.
I guess this is one reason to pay for the weather sealed cameras.

Here's is Nikon's reply.

Thank you for contacting Nikon. It is a pleasure to be able to assist you today. We recommend that you send your product in to our service center for evaluation by one of our technicians. Below I have provided a link with instructions on how to send your product to one of our service centers.

I'll send it in "after" I buy a full frame camera. Don't want to be without a camera at all.

Hi. My name is Rick. I’m the owner and lead technician at Discount Camera Repair and a member in good standing here at the UHH. I’ve been doing repairs for other members here at greatly discounted rates and would be glad to help.

I'd be more than happy to repair the camera for you and keep the cost as low as possible. If you’re interested, please respond by private message or simply reply to this post.

Also, The deleted images are recoverable if you haven't recorded over them on the card. Send me a PM and I'll discuss it further.

Although the Delete button is my friend, I do try and avoid using it when eating a peanut butter sandwich....

Hold the camera (OFF) overhead and vigorously exercise the button to try and dislodge any grit in the edges of it.
A good cleaning and servicing by Nikon might be the right fix for it.
There are other things that I personally would try. But I'm not going to suggest them here due to somebody trying them, then blaming me for their ineptitude.
Please do follow up on the fix for the problem.

I'll keep working the button. It does seem to be poping out a tiny bit more every time I go after it.
As far as the images. I took 300 on day 1 and uploaded to my desktop that night. I was just finishing up day two and hit the delete button at 577 and by the time it stopped deleting I was at 377. I then re did some. and came home at about 500 images. I expected 378 thru 576 to be gone. But it was mostly day one that was missing. The missing seemed to jump around. when uploaded after day 2 it was like 100 images day 1, 100 images from day 2, 50 day 1 100 day 2,etc And fairly sure 90% of what I took day 2 was still on the card. If it matters I then took another 200 on day 3. So I'm assuming I went over the missing images. If I thought about it, I had a back up card, I would of used it. What is the process of recapturing deleted images?

I use software specifically designed for that purpose. It's called Photo Rescue available at the site below.

http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/

It's not free but it has be invaluable on several occasions.
