LR to Photoshop

I notice when you do an Edit In in LR to Photoshop that some of the filters in Photoshop are grayed out like 3D and Artistic for example. When I open the file directly into Photoshop I can see those filters, however the LR edits are not present. I know I can Edit In With LR Adjustments, but I'm not getting the option to do that. The file just open in Photoshop.

From LR, you can right-click and choose "Edit In" and send it to PS or PSE. The next window asks 2 important questions:
Do you want to edit a copy or the original, and do you want to edit with LR adjustments.

But perhaps I'm not understanding your query.

I know about those options. When I select Edit In it does not give me the option and the opened file in Photoshop has the filters I mentioned grayed out. The opened file does have the LR edits which is what I want, but why are the filters grayed out?

Some of the PS filters won't be available for 16 bit files. Check to see if your image is in 16bit mode.

My Edit In preference in LR is set to 16bit Is that the problem?

I changed the preference setting. That's the problem. Now the question is what do I sacrifice using 8bit compared to 16bit?

The ability to push and pull those pixels without getting banding in smooth-toned areas such as skies.

You might find it better to put your preference back to 16 bits, then when in Photoshop change the Mode to 8 bits there. That way only the images that need 8 bit editing will be changed. Most of the filters in Photoshop require 8 bits, but many operations work in 16 and some in 32 bit.

I'm away from my PP computer, but try duplicating you background image and then select the duplicate to try your filters on. It may be that the background is locked (the default condition).
