Thoughts on the Sigma 12-24mm DG II and the Tokina 16-28mm

Having stepped up to a full frame camera I am having to replace my Canon 10-22 which actually was one of my favorite lenses. I am debating between the Canon 16-35mm f/4, the Sigma 12-24, and the Tokina 16-28, and have read several reviews on each. It seems that the Canon reviews the best overall but is quite a bit more expensive, the reviews on the other two leave one a bit confused as it seems that when compared across similar ranges as the Canon ie, stopping the Tokina down to f/4 or zooming the Sigma to 16mm the performance becomes similar although in the general review the but two lenses seem to suffer in the final comparison when compared to the Canon across their full ranges which are obviously broader than the Canon's...

I thought that I might seek some real world feedback from users on this forum.

For many years I used the Canon 17-40 f/4L for all my wide angle tasks. It is an extremely sharp lens. I finally sprung for the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II which I mount on a Canon 5D MK III. In a word, it is superb. I attend a lot of events where I shoot the participants indoors, sometimes under fluorescent lighting, sometimes with a 580 EX II flash - and they all come out beautifully. I highly recommend the Canon.

These lenses are out of my league - but I think you should read this - http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2014/07/canon-wide-angle-zoom-comparison - regarding Canon. I also think you should look at this - http://www.kenrockwell.com/tokina/12-28mm.htm - regarding Tokina 12-28 f4.

I understand that the lens will work on a Nikon full frame but not so certain it will play nice on a Canon, are you sure that there will be no mirror conflict?

That is a very good question ! - Which Ken does not seem to address specifically ......So I certainly cannot say for sure . But, if you look at the rear of the Nikon lens he shows set at 20mm, there is no lens protruding at the mount - for whatever that is worth.
