Drips and splashes third session

Third session with drips and splashes.
D7000 / 105 lens / SB-28 off camera / Tripod / cable release

This time, i wanted to add some color. I could find any Plexiglas or a long black tray, so I started with a black coffee cup and then switched to a clear glass. I put some plastic over the flash and moved it very close to the drip.

One of the founders of the company I worked for is Doc Edgerton (the E in EG&G). He was an MIT graduate (many, many years ago) that was fascinated with stop action photography. He was known for many strobe photography pictures he published. One was a drop of milk that formed a crown similar to what you have done. Nice work!

thanks for the comments! I have one more setup to try - a shallow tray or glass sheet with just the reflection of the lighting stopping the motion. That should be fun.

John, I just looked up Doc Edgerton. He did some amazing work. I was just thinking how many shots it took for me to get the images I posted. In my film days, I would have gone through an entire bulk loader!

Here's a crop of one of the images in case you don't want to do a download.

Nice! I love drips and splashes. The red background works very well -- especially with the clear glass.

Nice ones, Kevin. I imagine timing would be absolutely critical when shooting these. :D

Very good shots, Kervin! I just love to look at drops of water on double download; you can even see reflections in them! Well done!
