Snapsort - What's wrong with this picture?

I am researching, to a fault, a new travel camera and have narrowed it down to three - G1X Mark II, RX 10 and the FZ1000. When I look at Snapsort's "numbers", the GX1 is consistently given a 78, but the FZ1000 is given an 85 against the RX and a 81 against the G1X. Equally inconsistent are the numbers on the RX; a 78 against the FZ and a 71 against the G1X. What's wrong with this picture?

I don't like Snapsort as a good review. I was researching cameras and their comments are better on one camera but their numbers will show the other camera higher rated. I like Photographyblog.com better for reviewing.

I've found that these ratings aren't always real world ratings. Snapsort is a little confusing to me also. The best ratings you'll find are from people on here that have actually used the cameras. Believe me, I've read and researched as much as anyone and after all is said and done, I'm getting the SX50.

Remember that sites like these are just comparing stats and weighting them according to unkown preferences which try to capture an average user. As soon as you prefer one type of subject over another, those stats become less useful. For instance, if you shoot a lot of sports, the auto focus increases in importance. If you shoot landscapes, sensor quality may be more important. If street life, low light must be weighted much more than frames per second. Etc...

It is better to ask those who shoot what you are interested in what cameras work for them.

Snapsort does not do any objective testing. Not worth considering.

User reviews are also unreliable. Someone accustomed to a lessor camera may have a high opinion while the converse may think less of it. Trust complete strangers; I think not.

The only reliable way to judge is research the credible sites that do objective testing and provide data, and don't just rely on a single source.

Remember, that the main objective of most sites is to help sell gear. Its what keeps them in business.

I've seen Snapsort say one camera has this feature on the one they rate higher while the other camera has the same feature which they don't mention. I wouldn't trust them for selecting based on their numbers. Better to use sites that give real world comparisons & opinions. 8-)

I LOVE the Sony RX 100 for travel but it has to be the mark 3

Snapsort does not do any objective testing. Not wo... (show quote)

Based on that there are no sites worth using.

Every one of them (including DxO) uses ultimately arbitrary weighting in there scoring systems.

I will say that DxO is useful for very narrow issues like lens to lens on a given body or sensor comparisons isolated from the full camera system.

I guess we could go back and forth for eternity on this, so my best advise would be to decide what your tastes in photography are, buy the one that suits that best, try it and if it's not want you want return it and try something else. It may be a bit of a pain to do it this way but in the end you're satisfied and that's what matters. If you buy from a reputable dealer, such as B&H which I've used for almost ten years, you'll not have a problem with returns or service. There are other reputable retailers also other than B&H, but they are my pick.
