I am wondering if someone out there can provide information on repair of a Yougnou 560III speed light. I left batteries in it and it resulted in a very small amount of corrosion inside the battery cover. I used a wire brush and baking powder to clean the contact but it still does not power up. The speed light is only a few months old. Can it be repaired or do I just toss it and buy a new one and make sure I remove batteries after each use if it is going to sit for a while?

This might help.

Thanks jerryc41. I will try it on my own first. Hopefully it will work.

Let us know how it turns out. I often put my flash away with the batteries still in it because I think I will be using it soon. Then I remember that I left them in and hope no damage was done.

My first suggestion would be to start using better batteries.
Repair cost will could easily exceed the cost of replacement as battery corrosion issues can extend deep into the units circuitry. And that's if parts are even available which is highly questionable for these Chinese knock-off products.
yea, that is my concern: the cost to repair could exceed the cost to replace the speed light. Although it is a knock-off, it was proving to be a very capable product. I will try a couple of the recommendations that I have received but I am not looking to spend a lot of money on parts and/or labor for a $65.00- $70.00 speed light. you can rest assured the first thing I did was check my SB910 to make sure it was operational. I am using Duracell now. Any recommendations on a different battery since you suggesting using better batteries?
Thanks MT Shooter

What is the expiration date on those Duracells? Duracell warranties their batteries against leakage for two full years from "dead". Maybe contact them about replacing the flash unit based on the corrosion. One word of warning though, they will automatically reject any warranty claim if their is evidence you tried to clean up the corrosion. (I speak from experience here.)

I am pretty sure the warranty is March 2015 but I have already tried to clean the corrosion. :(
Thank though.

A pencil eraser sometimes works.

I use Panasonic Eneloop rechargeable batteries and take them out of the flash units after each use. They used to be manufactured under the Sanyo name, but Panasonic bought them out. Excellent results and they hold charges very well. Have not had one leak, yet.

Use white vinegar and a qtip. If there is a lot of corrosion, make a paste with baking soda, apply and let dry. Polish contacts with an Emory cloth. Use a dowel or pencil with eraser to get at internal contacts, blow out dried baking soda particles with rocket blower.

Why not just send it in for repair, if it's just a few month old, it still should be under warranty!

???
No electronic components warranty will cover repairs from battery defects.
