Correct lens hood for a Nikkor 35-70 f2.8 D lens?

I had no trouble finding a boatload of lens hoods for my Nikkor 50mm f1.8, and the Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8 lens I'm hunting for. But I'm having trouble identifying/finding a correct hood for my recently purchased Nikkor 35-70mm f2.8 lens. It came with a lens cap marked 62mm - will any 62mm hood work with it?

Since I wrote this, I did a search for a 35-70 f2.8 D lens to see if any were being sold with a hood, and saw 3 for sale with the HB-1 hood. Then did an HB-1 search and found several. I should have been more careful in my initial search before I posted my request - sorry. But while I'm here, are there any acceptable alternatives to the HB-1 that work any better?

Any lens hood on a zoom lens is a compromise. The HB-1 could be deeper for use at 70mm but then would cause vignetting at 35mm.

According to the manual:

the correct hood for the AF 35-70 f/2.8D is the HB-1

Mine (from ebay, Alaska) came with a hood, but I just saw one listed for about $4.00 on ebay. It was one of those items they have spread across the bottom of the screen. The original hood is less than 1" wide.

EDIT: $14 or $4, your choice.

I sold mine about three months ago, with the hood. I remember it wasn't my favorite hood because it was a pain to get on and off, and using a lens cap was also a pain. What I do remember was that it was a wonderful lens! When it was still available new there were any number of lens hoods available which would work. A screw mount lens hood, not longer than the original should work as should a rubber version. The issue, as someone else stated, will be at 35mm. My guess is that you could pick up some hoods in a "bargain basket" for less than a buck so you should be able to try a few others if you want. Again, as said before, you could also use a longer hood at 70mm. Checking out "junk bins" in camera stores, if there are any around you, can actually be fun! YMMV.

Thanks - I'm looking at those now on Ebay.
