Splash progress second session

My first try at splashing drops was with milk. I used my usual macro set-up (D7000/SB-28/Diffuser/105mm) but I used a tripod. For the drops, I tried using a straw with drops into a full cup. I loved the look of the milk, but the drops where too inconsistent to get regular results. After some reading, I wanted to try a regular series of drops onto a very shallow container. To keep the mess at a minimum, I used water. Inverted black coffee cup (made in China), water dripping from faucet, hand held. I went up to 400 iso, but next time I'll go back down to 100/160. Timing the shots around the sound of the drip gave me a surprising number of keepers. Next, I'll try it with milk dripping from a bag with a color background. These shots were at a downward angle into the sink. The next session, I'll setup more splash shields so I can get some shots level with the liquid.

I love the last photograph. It looks great in black and white.

These are in color, but there are only two colors in the image!

Are the colors black and white or close or should I get my eyes checked? I think I am due.

There's a tiny amount of blue. Here's a conversion to B&W

Thanks. I guess I see a difference. Maybe not. I still love the photo though.

Cool. I can see "China" in the third one.

Capturing the "crown" splash is always desirable.

Yes-- and I think the last one is closest to capturing this. I'm aware of the potential difficulty of choosing where you focus on these attempts- however the focus point on the last one appears to be behind where it needs to be: the foreground portion of the crown is soft while there are some drops beyond the crown that are more "in focus".

I know that these are not the best images. I was just happy with the progress. The next session will be on a tripod in more controlled environment.

This looks difficult and fiddly to get right but you seem to have done well. I look forward to seeing your next work.

Progress is what it's about. Love to see the next one. One of these days I'll try to do this

These look pretty good for a start. Splash drops is at the top of my list of things to attempt.

Curve-in, a great class in photography and physics Well of course the capture is great, ... thank you for the details. But... another couple please....
"Timing the shots around the sound of the drip" Using??
Shutter speed of... or is that controlled by flash duration?

Humm just a thought. adding a film of oil.. for examples, Google: "oil slick has a color sheen"
