Lightroom question

I looked quickly at light room and was wondering if is works somewhat like Aperture. I want to move from Aperture which I kinda like but feel if I went to PS I would need to take a class.

Yes all PP programs have a learning curve, but I have to ask. Why would you stay with a produce Apple is no longer supporting?

I just made the switch myself mainly because Apple is going to stop supporting Aperture which is a real shame. They work pretty much the same. Some of the terminology is different. For instant Lightroom uses FOLDERS that way you are use to using PROJECTS in Aperture. You can import your catalogues into Light Room without having to relocate the original files and all the key wording and metadata remains in tact.

I find the DEVELOP module in Lightroom to be much better. It interfaces much more smoothly with Photoshop allowing for seamless roundtrips.

The Book and Web modules are also very good if you have use for them. Overall, If you are a reasonable competent user of Aperture you should find the switch pretty easy.

If you want to switch to Lightroom spend some time learning it's setup. Set everything up right the first time instead of having to redo and fix things. Here's a link to a tutorial to Lightroom 4 and it doesn't matter that it's 4 not 5. It's free just scroll down. http://en.elephorm.com/tuto-lightroom-4-complete-training.html

I had to switch as well. Some things are better in LR such as the Develop module. If you want free tutorials, I found these videos , you could to be helpful: Julianna Kost, she's an Adobe expert and Anthony Morganti. If you want to spend a small amount of money, you sign up for Tim Grey's website ($50) and find lessons on LR, PSE and PS. Also situational videos on trips he has taken and specific problems covered. You also can subscribe to his weekly (for PSE) and daily for LR. I am putting together a book using LR b/c it has a direct link to Blurb which makes using LR and publishing seamless.

I will offer the thought that Apple is going to stop supporting Aperture (which I still use) as well as iPhoto because both programs will be replaced with "Photos" - supposedly due out this spring. I don't think I'm the only one who is waiting to see what Photos for Yosemite will offer and if it is a suitable replacement for Aperture...
