We're trying to figure out the make, model and year of this car.

To help you help us with educated guesses, the original print is marked 1939, but the real date almost certainly is the summer of 1940 or 1941, so the car was built no later than 1941, but probably was built sometime in the 1930s. The two girls are twins born in April 1936. The photo was made in Kearney, Nebraska.

Some visual cues that others have called out are - There is a radio antenna attached at the top of the split of the split front windshield. Unusually long side windows for the rear passengers. A long accent strip at the belt line from nearly the grille to the tail end. Note that there is another break above the belt line accent and below the side windows that doesn’t seem to run out far into the hood, but you can’t be sure. Running boards with what looks like a chrome strip next to the car body and another chrome strip on the outer edge. A two door and we can’t really see the door handle. A horizontally lined, chromed, grill. A modest hood ornament (for the time) and what looks like a chrome strip running down the center of the hood from the ornament to the windshield. The ornament is nearly as long as the turn indicator housing and may have small wings or projections out the side. The ornament also seems to have some sort of small button or knob on the very front. Un-pierced steel wheels and chrome hubcaps. The rear hubcap seems to have some detail on it, but that may be reflection. Pressed, chrome, steel bumpers instead of flat bar stock. A bit of a “v” in the front fender and chrome fender guards front and back. A long turn indicator housing atop the headlight housing. Can’t tell if the headlight housing is molded into the front fender or is separate and hanging off the side of the hood. It’s probably molded, and the whole front fender seems to be one piece of metal with the lower hood sides. Rear fender is bolted on. Small low, ”stuck on” tail lights. Solid color - not a two tone paint job.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

First guess - 1940 Buick 2 door sedan. The trim on the hood has a Buick look (there is writing on that trim that I can not read), but Pontiac did have a similar trim. Most GM cars did not have the headlights in the front fender until 1940. Prior to that the headlights were located on top of the fender. The '40 Buick 2 door sedan had the split windshield and the antenna located like the one in the picture.

after looking at a Buick you may be right. the rear trunk looks closer and the the chrome on the side of a Pontiac isn't rectangle like the Buick model I found.

No cars were made by any maker in the model years 1943-45.
