Anybody used a Nikon 12-24 in Hawaii for waterfalls and general landscape photos? Or should I get the 16-35 and save $$ Heard good and bad about both.

You might compare them on DXOMark.com.

Love my 16-35 but haven't taken it to Hawaii yet. Maybe next winter.

(PS: My 16-35 won the blue ribbon for me at State Fair this year...but the waterfall was in Washington.)

The Nikon 12-24mm is a DX lens, while the Nikon 16-35mm is an FX lens.
What camera body will you be using?

There is a Nikon 10-24 which is, IMHO, the DX equivalent to the FX 16-35. I have both and used the 10-24 sometimes on my D800 before I got the 16-35. It worked fine in DX mode and in the intermediate picture area modes above about 18 mm, but of course not as sharp as the 16-35 around the edges.

Best lens for Hawaii is the one I have in my backpack -- you'll need to take me with you though since I never have my camera system far from my sight!

The Nikon 12-24mm is cheaper than the 16-35 and for crop frame rather than full frame.
I think maybe you meant the 14-24mm?
