58mm adaptor does not fit canon lens

Has anyone had this problem?
I recently received a Gisteq Flashmate ringlite that came with several adapters for canon lens. The 58 mm adapter fits my 58mm 55-250 zoom kit lens just fine but is too small for the 58mm 18-55mm zoom lens. The company sent another adaptor and it is too small as well. I have several 58mm filters that fit both lens just fine. Any ideas or fixes? I am quite puzzled...

Probably, but is there any way to make it work?

There has to be a reasonable solution here. Is the thread length of the adapter the same length as that of the male thread of your 58mm filters? Does it screw into the female threads of your filters?

The adaptor does not screw into the female thread of my density filter. (I can't find the others right now). It is too small as it is on the 18-55 zoom lens. I am not sure what you mean by the same length of the adapter? Do you think there is anything I could line the threads with to make it fit? Open to any and all suggestions -this is very frustrating! Thanks for any help...

By thread length I mean the length of the threaded portion of the adapter. If it is shorter than that of the male filter thread, it may be that the first thread on the 18~55 is recessed too much into the barrel for the adapter thread to engage. That could also be the case with the filter. Carefully measure the outside diameter of the male threads of your filter and adapter - they should be the same. Do the same with the inside diameter of the female threads of your lenses and filter. They should all be the same. I'll check back in about 8 hours, and perhaps someone else will have an idea. We'll get this solved one way or the other!

Why would you want it to?

Just a check to try and figure out where the difference in threads is. I had expected it to fit.

It might be the thread-pitch. Why they would be manufactured incorrectly is a mystery. I have a couple after market third party 49mm & 52mm lens hoods that do not thread all the way on to my Pentax lenses, they thread on just far enough to stay on. To make it stranger in at least one case the hood goes on fine over a filter but will not thread directly on to the lens. I have not checked for this issue with all or even much of my equipment as there is way too much of it, but I did notice it with these two newly purchased hoods with a couple of lenses. Very odd indeed.

What do you mean by "too small?" Do you mean that the adapter just drops in to the area as though the opening on the 18-55 was larger than 58mm?

Contact Gisteq, explain the situation to them ask them for a solution they should have an answer rather than all this speculation.

almost invariably this is down to a variation in thread pitch

Anything is possible, but since the adapter fits one lens I would be very surprised if there were a variation in pitch. We'll have to wait til the OP comes on again. Poor guy probably has to work for a living.

it is ridiculous to assume that every filter or auxilary device can be stacked just because a few can.
Many of the filters in my box have different threads front and rear.

The situation as described sounded rather odd - may have been something silly and simple, and the OP is now too embarrassed to own up to it.
