I'm at a loss for words - what would YOU call this form of photography? "Ghosted" perhaps?

It's not infrared. It started out as a color photograph of a local pond, island in the center, old farm implements being used as yard art, and some interesting reflections in the water. I converted the image to b&w using Silver Efex, then ran it through Smart Photo Editor's "Negative Photo" preset - all of which changed a rather mundane snapshot into a nifty offshoot of art. But I don't know what to call it.

I think it's kinda like discovering a new species ...., you get to name it, or, maybe we could have a contest to name Bob's new technique!

Did these kind of pictures get called Silver Nitrate in the days of film or am I getting mixed up with something else?

Thanks for the suggestion Sony. I'm not really sure I would do a whole series of these, but it WOULD be fun if I could name the process. I'll have to think on it.

Thanks turtlepond. I've watched a few other folks go wild with Topaz Glow lately, so I thought I'd try something equally as dazzling, but reached by another path.

I'd call it beautiful, your "ghosted" is a pretty good name for it,too.

Sorry G Brown, I never processed film, so can't tell you. But I HAVE seen some glass plates that bear images very similar to this, so it is entirely possible.

Reminds of what happens when you print a slide in the darkroom. You are left with a negative print.

Thanks Karin. In a way, winter is the perfect time to experiment with ways to best highlight the structure, shape, and texture of trees .... that's what led me down this path of experimentation. I kind of like "Ghosted" too.

Sabattier effect or polarization looks similar to this. Silver nitrate is used in emulsion production. It mixes with potassium bromide to form potassium nitrate and silver bromide. Silver bromide, is a light sensitive silver halide.

Thanks Darkroom. I'm really glad there are guys like you around who learned post processing as a completely different art, one which is sadly missing from my background.

In my B&W darkroom I did something called Solarizing which looked something like this. When the print was in the developing tray, just as the image was starting to emerge, I would turn on the lights and the positive wouldturn inti a "negative". Please don't ask me how this happened, I have no idea, but it did.
