I have over 2000 photos taken on a tour of Australia and New Zealand. A number of individuals on this tour wanted copies of my photos. Can anyone recommend a photo site that would be easy to share with other non-technical travelers. Most of the photos were taken with a Canon 60D or Canon SX50 atmaximum resolution. I would like the others to be able to view these photos and also to download any they would like for their own collections or scrapbooks. Thanks for any help.

I myself use FLICKR, but there are many photo sharing sites available, SMUG MUG, PICASA, ZENFOLIO, etc....

Here is a list from the wikipedia

Put 'Photography hosting websites' into the search (at the top of the page) and a whole number of discussions are there. (I don't do web hosting but plenty here do)

One lets you 'allow' certain people access rather than 'everyone' (could be spotify?) which sounds like what you are looking for.

Don't forget that photographs keep getting ripped off and there is very little you can do about it - watermarks are easily removed. So if its a brilliant photo it may get copied and used by others...

Alternatively, CD's are cheap to both buy and post if its specifically for a group

good luck

Since it doesn't sound like you want to share these to the general public, but specific people, I'd recommend something like Microsoft Onedrive, Google Drive, or Drop Box.

You upload your files, and you can share them with specific people, allowing only those you share with access.

Flickr provides the ability to keep albums or pictures private, only allowing access to those you have provided a link to... I would guess many other sites do as well... but you are correct, a site like Dropbox would work, but might not allow them to easily see the images before downloading.

Do you know if they need a Yahoo ID to have the photos shared with them on Flickr?

I know at least with Onedrive, the receiving party does not have to sign up for an account.

Either would be a fine option.

The link should get them to the shared album - I send out links like that all the time and no one complains that it does not work.

Thanks

So - Flickr would be my #1 choice, then Onedrive.

Both basically offer unlimited storage for free as well.

Flickr may limit the space unless you opt for a paid account. I signed up a few years back for a pro account that costs me $25.00 a year or less for unlimited storage/uploads, etc.

I am not sure what their rules are for free accounts now.

Edit: A quick look seems like a free account is limited to 1 TB.

I have found Flickr quite reasonable to use and you get a terabyte free. I also use dropbox but more to pass large pictures files to other photo geeks rather than use email. I don't find the interface very user friendly.

Thanks you for the link. I too was wondering about sharing other than FB, and this will help.

I have had good luck with Shutterfly. also, you can use www.wetransfer to send up to two gigs for free. (wetransfer will try to get you to sign up for the 10 gb version, but it's not necessary.) You don't need an account to use it. For Shutterfly, you do need to set up an account, but it's free.

Thanks everyone for your replies and information. I think Smugmug might fit my needs. I currently do use Flickr for some things but I guess I am looking for some WOW! One has to be careful with some sites whose only purpose is to make it easy to order photo products from them (snapfish, Shutterfly).

One caveat. I read recently that Flickr has decided any photos you put there can be used for their purposes. In other words, if you want to protect your copyrighted material, it's probably not the place for you. I personally only post web-friendly sized photos at any of my online sites, they're not much good for anything except for viewing online.
