I wonder if any fellow joggers have any experience with silk brand tripods. Any input is appreciated! Thank you
"Silk" or "Slik"?
I used to wear silk shorts while jogging, does that count?

Sounds very smooth, but possibly a little flimsy. Supposed to be quite strong though!

Can't recommend Slik for serious work unless your gear is VERY small and very light.

Aren't they made by Caterpillar Inc., the manufacturer of earth moving, construction and mining equipment? Should be pretty solid if that's the case. :D
Thank you everyone! I will keep looking!

I have been using a Slik U212 Deluxe for about 25 years and really like it. Well built, very versitile ....can mount the camera on the bottom of the center post or one of the legs for tough to get at macro shots, built in spirit level, angle settings for panoramas and the quick release post system.
I also have one of their monopods for about the same length of time...really heavy duty.

Slik Tripods are sold at many different price points, I was surprised with one for Christmas and it seems to be very sturdy and rugged... I see that members are calling them garbage, but that is not my experience, mine is well made and solid. It is probably not the tripod that I would have picked out for myself, but I certainly find no issue with it and I really like the biscuit shaped quick release plate and the double locking system used when mounting the camera to the tripod. It has two levels on it for leveling the camera on each axis, and will support about 15#. It has tubular titanium alloy legs which as I said earlier I find to be very sturdy and will open up to almost flat for use of the camera in a very low position. The top section of the legs are encased in a really nice sponge/foamy material that I particularly like. the tripod seems to be mostly made of metal, I have not found any plastic that I have noticed, but then again I have not been looking for it, it was a gift and it was given because my old tripod had seen better days.

Caterpillar? Really? Take another "hit" Pete. Here's Slik's site. They are made in Japan. Cat's are built mostly in Peoria, IL.

I'm also using an old Slik U212, and yes, it is well built. The head that came with it wasn't the greatest, so I replaced it with a Giottos head,
which supports 13#.

I have a Slik Pro 700DX, it is tall, heavy and as solid as a rock.
Made from an alloy of Aluminium, Magnesium and Titanium, this tripod does not bend, sway, slip or warp. The legs are contoured rather than round, and fitted with strong clips rather than the twist tighteners which I find are always going wrong.
It is not a tripod to carry over long distances, too heavy for that, and my version came with a rock solid 4 way pan and tilt head.
I sometimes use this tripod with a Manfrotto arm, (steel), and in this way it will carry two cameras on Ball heads and 2 flashes, one at each end. I have never weighed the assembly but also never had a problem.
There are those who trash the Slik brand, maybe they did produce a lemon or two, but these people have not used the 700DX.

That would be SLIK not silk.
Anyway, their top end carbon fiber legs are pretty decent - the Grand Pro CF-4 and the Pro 924 CF. The Grand Pro is probably ok with up to a 400mm lens (full frame), and the 924 is good for up to 200mm lenses - I am looking at the top tube diameter, which is 36mm on the GP and 32mm on the 924. The other models are pretty lightweight and I would probably avoid them, as they are ways of getting newbies to buy into their brand and upgrade later. There really is no point in buying an entry level tripod - the $100-$300 tripods will frustrate you and be responsible for images with camera motion blur.
