Why did the bokeh go crazy? How did I do this, and how can I control it? (no cropping or PP on this photo)

We need to know what lens and camera. I am betting a zoom lens and zoomed out pretty far. All lenses have different bokeh.

It was a Canon T1i with a 50mm/1.4. There was no zoom. I took about 20 pictures in this set and many of them had these effect - some of them linear, others more circular like this one. I can post more.
Bokeh is a characteristic of the lens and changes with the aperture. The number and shape of the aperture blades has a LOT to do with the effect. What you are seeing is the effect at that particular aperture setting, it may indeed be quite different at another aperture.

i believe you are seeing reflections from water droplets - so no your bokeh did not go crazy. You ask how can I control it?
No easy answer but the simplist is to pay attention the entire frame - pay attention to backgrounds, pay attention to specular highlights .... just pay attention - and trust yourself to figure it out.

Annie, I have a few pictures I'd like to post and show you some of my bokeh that looks just like yours, if you wouldn't mind.

I don.t want to appear totally stupid but here goes. What is bokah???? Is it a good thing or bad?
My opinion is that the white spots are out of focus highlights. High lights in a background will be out of focus and that will create the effect I am seeing. It may be something enirely different but that is my guess.

Blurry background....I actually like it and would try cropping the photo in different ways.....

Chances are you had you camera set to an aperture of f/5.6 or some such similar setting. Blurring the background out and causing the lit areas to become prominent in the form of bokeh.
See this example from:

Bokeh is the area in a photo where the focus goes soft. It is very much in the control of the photographer . By changing your camera settings ( iso, shutter speed and aperture ) you can control "bokeh". I find it to be a very interesting part of taking photos. :)

Erv, yes please post your photos. That would be great. I really love to have a little bokeh in my photos, particularly because I like to take portraits. My issue has been, I don't know how to control it. I love the idea of taking the pictures with different apertures to get the bokeh under control. With this image, I find it distracting.
Water droplets???? Say what??? Someone is up late smoking wacky weed.

These were taken with my Nikon 28-300. Setting was F5.6 at 300mm. I was chasing this guy in the flower beds, that were in the shade. He flew into the tree about 30-40 feet up. So I just snap a shot just for fun. Should have changed settings. This lens has really bad bokeh at times. But is an awesome lens for a carry round, and sharp.
The first one is the original, then I cropped it 2 times to see how sharp the lens was. I was getting ready to go out to Oregon. So I was out playing to get use to the lens. In the first shoot it's not to bad.. but! ;)
