My Canon Pixma PM640 stopped printing the large black text cartridge. I soaked, flushed the printhead, changed cartridges, etc following all the tips on You Tube to no avail. I can still print documents and photos by designating 'photo' when printing which utilizes the smaller black cartridge. I have always been quite satisfied with the versality. The photo prints come out beautiful and when I scan a photo the copy cannot be differentiated from the original. I would like to buy a newer printer and keep this as a back up.
Since the generous rebate that Canon has recently given on the Pixma Pro-100 there are over 200 listed on eBay and literally thousands listed on Craig's List. B&H currently lists it at $149.99 with the Canon rebate of $250 includes 50 sheets of 13x19 paper and free shipping. Prints up to 13x19 at 4800 x 2400 dpi - 8 tanks. No scanning capabilities.
My other choice would be the Pixma MG7520 which prints up to 8.5x11 at 9600 X 2400 dpi - 6 tanks includes grey and a larger black text tank.
How would you think the print quality would compare since the MG7520 prints at double the dpi as the Pro-100 but the Pro-100 has two more tanks than the MG7520?
Price of both printers is virtually the same.
Thanks for any and all opinions and comments.
I have a Pro-100 and have put together a system of matching frames and lighting to turn a wall in my study into a gallery. Without the 13x19 high quality prints, my gallery would not be as satisfying.
My guess is that printing up to 8x10, your eye would see minimal to no difference at all from normal viewing distances. Maybe a magnifying glass would show differences.
The Pro-100 is big and heavy. It takes significant space.
The MG 7520 is more compact, and has the "all-in-one" funtions.
Canon considers the Pro-100 a "photo" printer. It will print documents, but that's not my favorite function for it.
Thanks bs, I appreciate your feedback. I might take advantage of the Pro-100 super deal. How's the ink consumption? I can handle the $100 per set. I noticed that the Canon Pro-1 set of OEM inks (12) can run over $400.

Hi Magic
I have the Pro 100 and am very happy with the ink usage so far, I am still on the set of tanks that came with it and have printed 3 13 by 19's, a couple of 8 by 10's and about 25 4 by 6's and the tank levels are showing about 25% used.
Really happy with the print quality, one thing you might want to do is wire the printer to your network over ethernet or direct to your computer if you just have one computer. The wireless option is really slow.

Of course it depends on what you are printing. I have a habit of liking big prints with black backgrounds. That can run through some cartridges.
That said, the Pro-100 is pretty good at showing you ink levels and warning when a tank is low. Rather than buy full $100 sets and grow a collection of low use tanks, I buy one at a time from Amazon with two day shipping.
As a one or two important prints a week sort of person, I've kept it running buying one tank at a time and not missed a print.
the Pro 100 is especially good if you do a lot of B & W printing.
Thanks guys. I bought a Pro100 bundle on eBay (w/ink and paper) since B&H and Adorama are sold out and am looking forward to it. Craig's List had some good deals ($120) but no one close to me. I noticed that B&H currently has the complete ink set for $99 with free shipping so I'll grab one of those. Thanks again!
Received your printer yet?
I also own a PIXMA Pro-100, and am delighted with my 13x19-inch prints.

Yes and it is
awesome! Thank you everyone for your kind and informative responses.

How many 13x19 color prints can you print on 1 ink set? And is it cost effective. I would like to get this printer.
Thanks.

As with ALL color printers, the cost is in the ink. Many printers are practically given away with a box of 13x19-inch paper (like a drug dealer giving away the first few "fixes" ). It is the return ink business that provides the profit. I have no idea about quantity of prints from a set of eight (8) different, standard ink cartridges. Some colors run-out before others, depending on subject colors.
