Very cool.......if I had to suggest something, I would drop off the pipe from the right side (say halfway before the Old Dog and the pipe). This allows me as a viewer to fix on the Old Dog.

Hi, Linda From Maine. Since I'm still new, please take my comments for what they're worth. I like the pipe because it provides vertical symmetry with the dog, provides a contrast with the slats, and also gives the house more character, as do the wires. I'm distracted by the white shade in the window, altho' I would have to see the photo with it and without it to make a final determination. The shadows in the front could be cleaned up, if you think that would make a better photo.

The issue that concerns me the most of all the compositional ones is that I don't see more of the dog's face. I don't know how you would correct this, because blowing up the photo would cut out more of the house. And lightening the dog's face to see more detail might not be enough. So, these are my thoughts without solutions. Sorry.

I do like the overall effect with the lonely dog with its shadow.

Linda, for what it's worth ediesaul perfectly echoed my thoughts right down to that shade in the window.
I happen to like the image over all. It's definitely out of your comfort zone. I have to get out of my comfort zone. Think I'll make that 1 of 2 New Year's Resolutions.

Thank you very much for your detailed response, Edie. I appreciate it very much!

I originally tried cloning out the shadows on left because I didn't care for them, but they defeated me :) I also lightened the dog's face, but I'll see if I can do more in that area; I know my laptop screen is brighter than many.

Thank you again!

Love the shot! I do love high contrast B&W , but was wondering if bringing up the midtones in this may bring a little more life to it... Especially in the dog..

Thank you kindly, MMO. Here's the shade gone :)

Not sure I'd say out of my comfort zone as much as that my landscapes of the past few months have tended to be my best work, so I just don't show the other stuff - lol. But going out with a goal to shoot "different" is a great resolution; hope you discover a whole new, fun world!

I think the black and white adds to mood of the photo. On the download, I can see the dog's face better. I don't know whether the dog feels abandoned or it is guarding its house. Definitely a keeper!
