Which Canon P/S for daughter

Need help please. My daughter has a Canon Power Shot SX 30 IS, which one of her kids dropped on the floor. Now when it is turned on, the camera makes a grating noise and turns itself off. She uses the camera mostly for family pictures, and shoots on "green" auto. She likes the long zoom. I am going to take to local camera shot to see if it is repairable. I am thinking about a replacement if not repairable. I see that B&H has a big rebate on Canon SX 520 HS. If this was your daughter what would you recommend?

The SX50 has been recently available from Canon, refurbished with warranty, for $200. Hard to beat that if she doesn't mind a camera too large for a pocket or purse.
The 520 and others of those size have no viewfinder, can be tough to see the LCD in bright light.

Linda, Thanks for the great info. The camera store estimated $120-$180 for repair, plus $20 shipping. I just placed order for refurbished Canon SX 50 for 179.99 plus tax. I appreciate your input, I think she is getting a better camera for the price of a repair.
