Catching liquid drops

I tried to get some liquid drop pictures last night. I used some old milk and a straw, Nikon D7000, SB-28 off camera and a 105 macro lens. What I had trouble with was the timing. I shot about 30 shots to get these and I really wouldn't call any of them keepers. I was looking for more of a "splash" but I didn't get that in any pictures. I think next time I'll use a wide rim bowl for a better angle.

Might want to look at this - slow shutter speed and flash to freeze means timing not so important.

Thanks for the replies. I'm pretty happy with the setting, I was wondering if there was a better method than hoping that my timing was good.

I so much appreciate photographers showing us their exercises! While I know your aim, I can't help but think, if you're interested, what special effects might do with these photos. They're fascinating in themselves, even tho' they didn't achieve your goals. Thanks so much for showing how you practice photography. I am very interested in learning how you learn.
