From D7000 to GX7?

I am very disappointed in my <1 year old Nikon D7000. the camera does not autofus correctly 60% of the time, but Nikon said that the camera issues are NOT covered by the Nikon warranty. RIP OFF- I might as well have a manual focus Nikon. As a 20+ year Nikon shooter, that is the only brand I have ever owned, until yesterday.

I purchased a Lumix Gx7 - I want to see if this one will at least last for 1 year. Anyone have D7000/7100 and GX7?

Nikon -you really should be ashamed, should trash this one, really loyal until 2 weeks ago....

I have a three year old D7000 with 25,000 shutter activations plus, AND still love the camera. It has never failed me.
Might upgrade to a D7200/D9300/D400, at some time in the future, but will always keep my D7000 as a back up/alternative.

My original D7000 has over 250,000 shots on it and has never shown me any AF issues. I will keep shooting it until it dies completely, one of the best bodies Nikon has ever produced!
IF there is an AF issue with the camera, and not the operator, that issue is most definitely covered by their warranty, without exception.

I was told that this is a compression issue and not covered by warranty -directly from a Nikon repair facility in ILL

"Compression" issue? You ran over the camera and compressed it into a pancake?

I've never heard the term compression issue with lenses. If the camera's in 3D tracking mode the autofocus could be hunting. Try out all of the different focusing modes and using it in single point autofocus. I had a D7000 with a severe back focusing issue. All of my Nikon lenses that focused well on my other Nikon DSLR's were way off on that D7000. No amount of AF fine tuning could correct it. I returned that one and ordered another from a different company. The autofocus on that one seems to be calibrated correctly.

That makes more sense than anything you have said to this point.

I've been using Nikon cameras for 43 years. The ability to focus quickly and accurately is why I bought the D7000 and I have had great success with it.

Some camera-lens combinations have focusing problems and need adjustment. Google the issue with the D7000 and you may find a fix.

Here's one for back focusing:

I know some people like the D7000 But for me it was the worst Nikon I owned Kept it for a while and sold it Found it was more of a point and shoot and I to didn't like the focus I now have the B300 and D800 Both excellent cameras I am also looking at the Cannon GX7 as a general pack around camera. Will trade my D300 with all original boxes and software a battery grip Nikon 2 batteries and a 24-105 Nikon macro lens for it along with several books on the D300 anyone interested Mr MT Shooter.

Gee. I have a D7000 and have at least 50,000 images. I never have a problem with focus. The thing has a much better eye for focus than I do. In fact it is the best camera I have ever used in the format which includes Canon, Pentax, Fuji, Minolta and a bunch more. (If I had a slave to carry it and accessories, nothing has ever been a great as my 4x5 Linhof. ;-)

If you are having a problem that is caused by the camera itself, I have never heard of Nikon refusing to honor the warranty of a US camera. In fact they have gone way beyond the letter of the warranty for several people, including some hedgehogs. (I've also never heard of them repairing a gray market camera, but this is clear in their literature.)

I recommend purchasing either the Darrell Young or the David Busch book on the D7000 (You don't need both, but you do need one or the other.) I'm not saying that you are doing something wrong, but just maybe. . .

We're they telling you you had it set to JPEG low compression setting or something? I could see how that could appear to be bad focus for some eyes once you transferred the files to your computer.

Posting a sample image showing the problem may help.

Another one of those people that should have spent money on a photography class instead of a new camera...

Have close to 20,000 shutter actuations in one year with my D7000 and five different lenses. No problems whatsoever, focus or otherwise. Bought D7100 and D750, keeping D7000. Unless your camera is gray market, Nikon absolutely should fix any autofocus problem. Have you tried with multiple lenses? Have you tried autofocusing in Live View as well as through the viewfinder? Have you showed the camera to an independent repair person or other expert? With some more details there are probably many on UHH who could diagnose the problem or at least narrow it down.
In any case, it's fixable.

Something like that. Clearly someone that wants to blame a non-camera issue on the camera, for whatever reason.
Still trying to figure out what his "compression" issue is really supposed to be, but rather than ask for assistance all the OP wants to do is Rant and pass the buck. There are dozens, if not hundreds of helpful photographers here who would be glad to help if he would just ask, but pride and attitude are clearly preventing that.
