I have done this with my Olympus P&S. I used Picasa to create the video and it worked out fantastic. All you need is an intervalometer to trip the camera. I had to build mine from scratch, a combo of electronic and mechanical. But it was inexpensive and worked just fine. Good luck and have fun:)
