Have you heard about the BPG format? just what we need

I can see it now buy a new camera and all of a sudden the BPH format comes out. Glad I shoot RAW.

Surely TIF won't disappear?- all those years in the future. BPG will I am sure convert to TIF. And TIF converts to JPG for web and screen apps etc. If BPG will not convert then it's already a dead duck.

It's BPG, not BPH.

Buy a new camera and BPG comes out... instead of RAW! What now?

I saw this article yesterday too. There seems to be better compression and the new format can handle 14-bit data. I guess this is why many pros convert whatever RAW format their camera produces to DNG during import into Lightroom or Camera RAW. Which is future-proof until Adobe goes belly up. As an old computer guy, I thought that PNG was supposed to replace JPG by now. I'm not holding my breath...

It's just another attempt to come up with a file format that can replace jpeg.
